Our Mission
As Children of a loving God, the mission of Sacred Heart Catholic School is to assist families in educating and fostering growth of the whole child – spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Together we will guide our children to live as Christian members of the world community.
Our School
Sacred Heart Catholic School holds the distinction of being a Western Catholic Education Association accredited school. Our campus can accommodate 250 students in grades preschool through 8th grade. Sacred Heart Catholic School has ten classroom teachers, and specialists in art, music, reading and physical education. We have a part time nurse (on call daily) and a librarian/IT specialist.
We offer extra curricular activities to enrich the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well being of our students. These activities include: student council, Drama Club, Future Cities, Science Olympiad, National History Day, spelling bee, The Geography Bee, TVCS sports, and 5th and 6th grade basketball.
Our students live and grow in their faith by participating in Mass on Friday mornings, Monday morning prayer services, Stations of the Cross during Lent, school-wide retreats, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and other prayer traditions and devotions such as the Rosary and Crowning of our Blessed Mother. We also have a full-time campus minister/religion teacher on staff who helps guide our students in putting their faith into action through regular volunteer work, visiting homeless shelters, and coordinating service projects and retreats that encourage our Catholic identity.
Our facilities include the school building that houses eight classrooms, the gymnasium and stage, teacher’s lounge, nurse’s office, library, and administrative offices. Three separate buildings house our pre-K and Kindergarten rooms, Carolyn Flagan Memorial Science Lab, and E.L. Wiegand Art Room and Technology Lab. We have a covered picnic area and large multi-purpose sports field with a baseball diamond, six basketball courts, and playground equipment.
Sacred Heart Catholic School offers a hot lunch program Monday through Friday.
Our History
Sacred Heart Catholic School was founded in 1958 by Msgr. James Hallissey. The first principal and teachers were Benedictine sisters from the Monastery of Saint Gertrude, in Cottonwood, Idaho. The charism of the order at that time was “Education, Hospitality, Peace.” Sacred Heart Catholic School exists as a direct result of the dedication, financially and spiritually, of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church parishioners. The school was built on the same property as the church in 1958. Since then, subsequent generations of these same parish members have attended and graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School. Currently, Sacred Heart employs 6 alumni. Sacred Heart Catholic Church has continued its financial support for the school. In the fall of 1999, Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, a neighboring parish in SE Boise, began its financial support, as well as encouraging parishioners to send their children to Sacred Heart Catholic School. For more than sixty years, Sacred Heart Catholic School has been diligent in its efforts to fulfill the mission of the school, to support parents in educating children spiritually, academically, emotionally and physically.
